The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) is a large, space-based observatory that has revolutionized our understanding of the universe. Launched in 1990 by the Space Shuttle Discovery, Hubble orbits Earth at an altitude of approximately 547 kilometers (340 miles). It is a joint project between NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA).
