The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is a large, space-based observatory optimized for infrared wavelengths. It is designed to complement and extend the discoveries of the Hubble Space Telescope, with longer wavelength coverage and greatly improved sensitivity. JWST was launched on December 25, 2021, and is a joint project of NASA, ESA (European Space Agency), and CSA (Canadian Space Agency).
